Jim is off to London, OH with his dad today to pick up my Herald…about 3-ish hours away. Can’t wait till it gets here! Really wish it wasn’t going to rain today…we are now assuming it’s going to get wet INside the car because the top didn’t look like it’s in too good of condition. Ah well. We’ll just have to put it in the garage and let it dry. I’m praying everything goes well. The car has no title ’cause the owner can’t find it. Talk about ANNOYING (and possibly expensive). We are hoping he can produce one…otherwise…well…we’ll go into the details of the HUGE annoyance of trying to get a title…if we end up having to do it. For right now…I’m trying to focus on the fact that MY CAR IS COMING!!!
Jim had to borrow a car trailer from a friend at work (which is their first stop along the way…pick up the trailer)…we had to purchase tie downs (not too bad…$25 at Autozone prior to Jim’s discount) and there was something else…like a winch only I can’t remember what Jim called it. Anyway…so they are all set. Jim printed out 2 copies of a Bill of Sales form just in case the owner didn’t get a chance to fill out the one we emailed to him and have it notarized (hoping he did or that’ll be yet another thing they have to do today…go to a bank down in London and get it notarized…in case the owner can’t produce a title…it’s a requirement to get a new title AND…it proves that we didn’t steal it…haha). Jim will be calling me when they are on their way home (after everything is taken care of) and I will update you all on how everything went!!
Well…Jim’s off doing that…and Iain’s getting in his hour or morning cartoons (this morning…it’s Danny Phantom because I’m tired of hearing Super Mario Brothers’ Super Show…he’d watch it every morning if given the choice…but…luckily he likes Danny Phantom, too). Jim got me a coffee at McDonald’s this morning…wow…talk about caffeine! I don’t drink coffee very often and when I do it’s highly watered-down iced coffee so…I’m definitely feeling the caffeine…and will definitely be feeling the DOWN later.
I have been walking about 5 miles a day (either outside or, when the weather is bad, inside (I love Leslie Sansone’s Walk Away the Pounds…so glad I found that many years ago!). I definitely enjoy walking outside better than doing the DVDs…but…I don’t walk in the rain so…inside it is. Iain LOVES our walks! He sees the stroller come out and starts squealing and jumps right in. Of course…a few minutes into our walk he’s usually passed out…haha…but that’s ok. He doesn’t take naps anymore…still trying…I still ask him everyday…and everyday he says “no nap!” but…ah well.
Some people think I let him get away with too much…but that’s really not the case. If I ask him something and he says no…no amount of force is going to get him to do it. It’s like with food…I can keep putting out the same thing all day to get him to eat it and it doesn’t matter how hungry he is…if he says “no”…he means “NO!” Sure…there are times when I don’t listen to his “no”s…like when I’m trying to put him in a cart at the grocery store and he SCREAMS! “NOOOOOO!…NO WANT!!!!!”…guess what…he still has to go in the cart. There are some things no amount of “no”s is going to get him out of having to do it…but sometimes…it’s just not worth it. You have to pick and choose your fights…some are worth it and some aren’t. If he says “no” to holding hands…too bad! I will hold his wrist till he gets the point…I don’t care if he throws himself on the ground…he can throw himself on the ground with me holding his wrist (this mostly happens at the libraries…because he seems to think he OWNS them). There are some things you do for safety but there’s no reason for me to put a screaming kid in his room and let him cry after he tells me quite clearly that he isn’t going to take a nap. That’s just stupid.
It’s the same with food…if I give him something for breakfast and he doesn’t eat it…ok…nothing else for breakfast BUT…I’m not going to re-give him the same thing he didn’t eat for breakfast…for lunch…so that he doesn’t eat lunch either. That just seems silly to me.
Anyway……………..
I know I’ve said this before but…I love Iain’s school. They have been having a lot of assemblies lately and they are all wonderful. Last Tuesday (the 11th)…they had some entertainer that uses basketballs (I don’t know much about it because us moms didn’t get to see that one…we didn’t know we were “allowed”) but…I do know that the guy asked if anyone wanted to come up and give it a try…and Iain just ran up on stage to participate 🙂 His teachers knew he’d want to…but didn’t expect him to just run up there all on his own…they were very pleased. I was thinking…well…duh. Of course he’d run up there…the question was asked and he wanted to GO!…why wait. I know…they don’t understand the whole…”not talking but not being shy”…thing. Wish I was there to see it but it’s great to know he’s just as outgoing without us there 🙂
Last Thursday (the 13th), one of the high schools in the area put on a little carnival for the kids in the gym. They had a bouncy room…and bowling…and volleyball with a HUGE blow-up ball…and this baseball game. Iain LOVED it…he didn’t like the bouncy room but he loved the bowling (the girls that were in charge of it thought he was so adorable…and he liked that…haha) and he LOVED the baseball game (surprise surprise) and he got a little “medal” necklace for his skills 🙂 He had a great time and we got to watch for the sidelines (which is great fun!!!…I love being able to watch him…and relax…haha…not having to run around after him sometimes…isn’t such a bad thing). Some of the parents aren’t allowed to go watch the assemblies because the kids aren’t good with the separation thing so if they see their parents and have to leave them twice…it’s not good…but Iain’s good…he wants to go with his teachers and finish up his “school day” so…we are allowed to watch 🙂
This last Tuesday (the 18th), they had Jungle Terry come to school, which I knew Iain would LOVE! “ANIMALS!!!” He got to pet a chinchilla, an alligator (baby one, obviously), a fantail pigeon (he LOVED watching them fly, too…Oh how I LOVE his excited expressions!!!), a HUGE ball python, a HUGE turtle (that’s what they called it for the kids but I’m thinking it was a tortoise?…don’t even know if there’s a difference…haha…Iain LOVES “tootles”). I’m sure there were other ones I’m forgetting, too. He also got to see a huge albino skunk (huge for a skunk, that is), a little dwarf hedgehog, a spider (tarantula…Iain LOVES spiders…the second Terry asked the kids if they wanted to see a spider…Iain started doing the itsy bitsy spider sign and saying “BIDER!!!!” (that’s how he says spider…very cute…and we are working of the SSSSSpider…haha). I’m sure, like I said, that I’m forgetting some animals but…it was great fun! Iain was the only one from his class that got really into it (not surprising considering the other kids are in there for social reasons, too…not just speech)…he ran up to the animals anytime he was allowed to pet them…and he just LOVED it. I LOVE his excitement!!!! Anyway…once again…we watched from the sidelines and it was just so much fun to see him react that way while we “weren’t there”.
We will definitely miss school this summer! though I’ve packed our schedule so full that I don’t think we’ll have much time to miss it…haha.
Iain’s speech is coming along so well! He’s even starting to talk a little in front of people (people he knows, still, but that’s better than nothing). He’s not shy at all…he’ll run up to new people (he’s only allowed to do this in school…teachers walking around the halls and such…they all love him)…but when he gets up to them…he pinches his mouth shut tight and won’t say anything. After a few minutes…he might say a few words…if he forgets he’s “not supposed to” but…yeah…still needs work or he’s not going to pass his evals in Sept. He talks a lot in class and to his teachers and such…so that’s good…but the person doing the evals won’t be one of his teachers (or anyone he knows) so I’m a little nervous about that. He’s seriously funny. At the end of class on Tuesday when I went to pick him up…he was matching his picture to his picture on his locker and he runs up to me with his pictures and says “I have babies!”…I said “very nice…you have pictures of babies”…then I saw the pictures and said…”no, Iain…you have pictures of Iain…that’s you”…his answer…”yes…I Iain…I baby”. Like his teachers said…”hahaha…Iain…you are too funny!” He talks all the time at home. He’s sooooooo funny…I just love our conversations!!! The things he comes up with sometimes…HAHAHAHAHA.
Iain’s school also puts things into perspective. Jim and I talk about it often…Parents (including us) often forget…with our little “problems” with our kids (late talking, late walking, or just issues with either one)…the BIG problems other kids have. It’s amazing to me all the technology that has been created to help the children have “normal” lives. Iain’s school really puts things into perspective. I hope that makes sense.
I’m currently working on a “box purse”…a purse made from a wood box. I’m still in the painting stage because I didn’t have any time to work on it yesterday but…if it comes out well…I will post some pictures. It’s great fun! And if this one comes out well (this one’s for me ’cause it’s a learning experience!)…you might just see more in the weeks/months to come.
Anyway…I should get going…I could write all day due to 1) not wanting to clean, which is what I’m off to do now and 2) caffeine makes me HYPER!!! haha.
