Snowshoeing…

We went to a local park this morning for a Snowshoeing program. It was quite a to-do to get there…Jim accidentally took the car to work with him so he had to rush it back to us…our GPS wouldn’t find us (which I was kind of counting on to get to the park)…a few minutes into the drive the “Low Tire Pressure” light went on. Blah. But…we eventually got to the park on time! We’ve only been to the park in the spring/summer…never noticed there was a ski lodge there (and since none of us ski…really had no reason to know that anyway). Iain got little snowshoes…

All ready to go.

All ready to go.

We headed out…the kids got some instructions…and then they were off…

Waiting to GO!

Waiting to GO!

A few seconds after we started out…one of Iain’s snowshoes fell off (he has very small feet and even their smallest ones wouldn’t fit quite right…he was also the smallest/youngest kid there…but that’s ok 🙂 ). One of the instructors helped put it back on and we were off again…and then…it fell off AGAIN. So…we went back to the lodge and he got a different snowshoe and we were off AGAIN! The rest of the group was way far ahead of us by this time so…he ended up with his own private lesson…

Learning to "walk like a zombie".

Learning to “walk like a zombie”.

He made it quite a distance before the snowshoe fell off again…

Though he had some technical difficulties with his snowshoes due to his tiny little feet…he still had a FANTASTIC time!

When the lodge was in sight…Iain decided it was a race…and ran in his snowshoes back to the lodge…

Sunday morning, my parents came upstate and we all went to the Adirondack Animal Land, which I found out about by looking for the closest zoo to the Albany area…who knew there was an Adirondack Animal Land?

If you have kids and live in that area…I highly recommend going. It was sooooooo much fun. It was the perfect size for kids (not overwhelmingly huge)…almost all shaded…and you can feed almost all the animals either through a tube or by hand (which means you are guaranteed to SEE the animals). I took a TON! of pictures…so here’s my attempt at not posting all of them…

Feeding a monkey…

Going for a pony ride…

Feeding the goats…

“They’re slimy!”

Zebras…

Riding a dinosaur…

Iain liked the skeleton…

In Jail…

Pretend crying in jail…

Riding an elephant…

Donkeys…

Deer enclosure… The deer were just ridiculous and much bigger than Iain. While he liked the deer…he thought they were scary sometimes, too…which I could imagine…’cause to him…they were big…and they REALLY wanted that food.

Smiling for food…

“Ewwww…yuck”

Jim’s herd…

Giraffes…

Yep…that was my attempt at not posting too many pictures…but that’s only like an eighth of the pictures I took while we were there so…I think that’s pretty good 🙂

To be continued. . .

Catch It!

On June 7th, I took Iain to Veterans Park for a fishing program (Catch It!). We went to the same program last year…but this year was so different. Kids change so much in a year! Last year…I helped Iain…this year…he needed (and wanted) no help. Last year…he caught 7 fish with my help…this year…he caught 6 all by himself (5 baby sunnies and 1 baby bass). I have to say…it was even more fun this year than it was last year! He had sooooooo much fun doing it all by himself. His favorite part…definitely throwing the fish back. He LOVED it. That was pretty much his reason for catching fish…so he could throw them back…and do his slightly maniacal laugh…which was pretty darn funny. He thought it was hilarious that they jumped out of his hands into the water. I wish I’d thought to catch some of it on video but…I was having too much fun for that. I did, however, manage to take pictures (easier to do this year with him fishing by himself).

Over a month later…

Yeah…it’s been too long. I won’t be making excuses…nor writing a “catch up” post…merely because…way too much has happened in the past month and a half to write a catch up post. I have lots of pictures…most of which you’ve seen elsewhere (on FB…Snapfish..or in emails) so…I’m just going to start from here…

Last night we went to the farmpark to see the Country Lights. We barely made our ticket time…but we made it and had a great time riding on the horse-drawn wagon…and seeing all the lights. I think Iain’s favorite was the “light tunnel”…

Enjoying the ride...

When we went inside, Jim got some popcorn to share with Iain…and then we went to wait in the line to see Santa, who took a break from 7-7:30 so…lining up at 7:15 meant there wasn’t much of a line…

Waiting in line to see Santa...

He was sooooooo cute…he ran right up to Santa and sat down next to him…took an extremely adorable picture! and then told him exactly what he wanted for Christmas…a “power rangers morpher”…which was news to us until yesterday…Thanks, Iain, for telling Santa… He’s been telling us “Santa’s bringing an Ewok and a Rancor”…for months…and changed it yesterday…Santa’s still bringing the Ewok and Rancor…but he’s bringing a morpher, too. Haha. Too cute!

After seeing Santa, we walked around for a bit…got some more really cute pictures. Considering Iain wasn’t feeling very well (I think he has a cold ALL winter…seriously!)…he was quite the sport about the pictures…

Hugging Rudolph...

"Ok, mom, I'm done with the picture thing..." Haha.

Then…we went home. Great fun!

What’s coming up this week? Iain has karate tonight and tomorrow…then he tests for his orange belt with a black stripe on Saturday!! (They do half-belts with the Tiny Tigers.) Iain is SUPER excited!!!

Now…hopefully it won’t be another month before I post on here again…

October Fun!

Thursday
We had a busy night. Iain went to karate from 4:45-5:15 and then straight to a Halloween Party at a local park. He was exhausted from karate (yeah…just half an hour totally knocks him out because he puts so much energy into his class!)…but we had lots of fun all the same…just didn’t make it all the way to the end of the party.

He got a kick out of scaring all the other kids. He didn’t do it on purpose…just turns out little kids are afraid of Darth Vader…and Iain went around doing “the Vader breathing” and loudly humming the Vader theme music…kids tended to hide behind their parents…and Iain thought it was funny. If only the kids knew that under the Vader mask was an extremely silly little man.

Doing "the choking thing"...

Painting a pumpkin...

I thought he was finished painting the pumpkin…but his pumpkin still “needed a face!” So he painted on a ghostly face…

Fishing for ghosts...

Mini golfing with eggs is tough!

Friday
We went to A Christmas Story House in Cleveland with Jim’s parents. They got us tickets for Christmas last year and we finally made plans to go! Iain hadn’t seen the movie in a year so we showed him a bit Friday morning before we left. He LOVES the movie (and actually remembered it from last year…I’m always impressed by his memory!) so he was very excited to go to “Ralphie’s house”…

It was a cold and rainy day but surprisingly enough…even in October…there were about a dozen or more people at the house. We all had a great time…and Iain had fun reinacting some of his favorite parts. The second the tour guide was done talking…he wanted to go straight upstairs to see the boys’ bedroom…and he insisted on sitting on the toilet “just like Ralphie”…

And he just had to sit under the sink “like Randy”…

Lots of fun.

After A Christmas Story House…we headed over to the West Side Market. I’d never been and it’s ridiculously huge…LOVE it!! Iain was really good…he got very tired…understably so…but he had a yummy hotdog…and helped us pick some stuff to bring home…so he had a good time, too…

Sunday
Our church had Halloween Trunk or Treat. Too much fun. People decorated the trunks of their cars and the kids went around and trick or treated…and there were lots of games inside. Iain had SOOOO much fun! Sooooo many people came!

All ready to go Trunk or Treating...

Jim was in charge of our trunk as I was taking Iain around. He set up his fog machine in the car and everything.

The whole Halloween thing is WAY more fun this year than last year. Iain LOVES Halloween…dressing up like Darth Vader…and seeing all the other kids dressed up like all different characters…Wolverine…Spider-man (both red and black)…the red Power Ranger…and Princess Leia…Jengo Fett…Arf Trooper…just to name a few. Tons of fun…and we aren’t quite finished with the Halloween thing. We still have a Halloween party on Saturday! and real trick-or-treating with Jim’s mom on Halloween night. Iain’s sure loving being Darth Vader.

Sunday, we went to the Medieval Faire, something I have been looking forward to for months!…since I purchased the tickets at the beginning of the year. I knew Iain would have a blast! as he’s obsessed with knights (one of his many obsessions…haha). We got there around 1:20…walked around for a bit…watched some of the Highland Games…got some food and even got Iain his very own wood sword. Yep…I finally caved after many months of begging from both Iain AND Jim and let him get a toy sword. He wanted a helmet and a shield but…can’t have everything. Then, we headed back over to the Field of Honor for the Jousting around 3 o’clock (that’s the main event we couldn’t miss!).

Checking out the knights' horses...

Waiting for the jousting to start with his new sword...

Iain had so much fun cheering for our knight...

Our knight won, which made it even better. After the jousting he got to go up to the knight and put a tip in his helmet…he got quite the kick out of that!

After the jousting, Iain got knighted by the king. He was knighted last year but this year…he paid more attention and understood it all…haha. The king told the parents to call the kids Sir [insert name] for the rest of the day. Iain loved it…we called him “Sir Iain” the whole day (nothing new, really, except the king told us to and Iain got a kick out of that…I call him “Sir Iain” all the time…because if he can call me “your highness” (which he does ALLLLLLL the time)…I can call him “Sir Iain”…haha). He also went around telling everyone yesterday “I’m a knight…like the king said!”… Seriously adorable!

After the knighting ceremony, we went through the Labyrinth. Iain LOVES!!! the movie Labyrinth and was VERY excited to go through one…looking for the Goblin King the whole time…and when we got to the end and he wasn’t there…Iain went back in still searching for him…haha.

In the dungeon of the Labyrinth...

We also checked out the Birds of Prey exhibit…it happened to be feeding time so we got to see them completely “out of control” just because the lady came in with lunch. The noises they make!

Iain got to ride a miniature horse for the first time! I’ve never ridden a horse to this day and don’t plan on it. I’m not big on horses…they are scary…so I’m glad this was a miniature horse…and pretty blah. Iain loves horses so I suck it up for him. He had a great time! He thought it was awesome…even though, at first, he was disappointed that he wasn’t allowed to bring his sword with him on the horse so he could battle like a real knight on a horse. Haha.

We did a lot of walking around and looking through the different tents…and we saw a couple shows (including Slash…who Iain LOVED!!!) and had a great time! We stayed over 5 hours. On the way out, a lady gave Iain a flower, which he LOVED!…

He made it all of two seconds in the car before passing out...still holding his flower 🙂

This morning was our new pastor’s first day. I thought we missed her first day a couple weeks ago because our old pastor left in June…and we were unable to make it to church for a a week…and last week was “youth Sunday” so the youth lead worship. Anyway…turns out there were a few weeks with “no pastor” so…yay for not missing her/their first Sunday. I’m not going to go into great detail…but I like them (her and her husband)…didn’t expect that since she’s my age…and a woman…but for now…we are giving her a chance…so that’s great…because we LOVE our church…

Following the church service this morning, there was a potluck breakfast to welcome the new pastor(s) that we managed to remember before getting to church! (we are really bad at remembering such things) and brought Cranberry Oatmeal Bars…made them yesterday…have made them a few times so…I knew they’d would be good. I substitute white chocolate chips for the pecans…I try to omit nuts from recipes when I’m bringing them places because lots of people are allergic and it’s just easier. Anyway…the potluck was very nice.

After church…we came back home and hung out for a few. Around 2:00, we headed over to the Party in the Park. We stayed for about 3 hours…had lots of fun! It was REALLY hot! Even in the shade. But it was really fun. Iain had a blast and didn’t want to come home but…at the same time…he was utterly exhausted. We didn’t see too many shows. We walked through the Classic Car Show a few times (nice cars…TONS of American cars…which is odd to see…we always go to British Car shows…haha). And we saw Jungle Terry…but other than that…we just walked around through the vendors and Iain jumped in the bouncy house a bunch of times (not enough times for him…he would have lived in it!). Great fun!

Picture time!!!

Petting an alligator.

Checking out the BIG snake!

Petting the BIG snake.

Jumping time!!! Sometimes blurry pictures are the best 🙂

Eating an elephant ear…

I am taking Tika to the vet. tomorrow for a check up and a heart worm test (fun) so we can get more pills. And we need more prescription shampoo for her, too (yeah…she uses prescription shampoo. . .). Praying it goes well…in other words…praying she doesn’t leave any presents in the waiting room. . . Wouldn’t be a first, though.

We leave for NY on Thursday!!! Woo-hoo!!! It’s gonna be a long trip. We haven’t made the trip in a year (which is just sad, by the way). Luckily…we made no plans for that day so we won’t be stressed to get out there at any certain time.
