‘Cause that’s how much I’ve kept up on this lately. Ah well. BUSY! I’m sure all of you who are actually reading this know I have started my own little Etsy shop (Enfys Creations) and it’s been doing insanely well for as little as I advertise! During December, I literally had at least one order a day…custom or ready-made, which is more than I could have asked for considering I just started. Awesome!

It’s slowed down, which is a good thing, by the way. I still have plenty of orders to keep me busy and am attempting to post new items when I have the time to do it! I have a TON of items lined up…tons of fun.

Anyway…

It’s 2013 now…which is just ridiculous. I remember when Iain was born, I figured out when he’d be starting school (kindergarten)…2013 seemed so far away. Not that I would say time has flown…it’s just funny. Yep…he starts kindergarten this fall and he’s SUPER excited. It’s only half-day, which is nice…for both of us…it would be quite the shock to go from no school to full-day school. I’m sure we’d handle either but…anyway…I like half-day.

Let’s see…what else can I babble about. Really…life is just full of playing with Iain…teaching him (love school time with him!)…crocheting up a storm…watching movies/tv with Jim and playing games with both of them. Yeah…Iain is officially a “gamer” (he has been for a while but…he just played his first game of D&D minis last night…which makes him officially part of the club).

ImageImage

He got Skylanders Giants from Santa for Christmas and played and played and played (I have to admit…it’s an awesome game…I have my own Skylanders, though nowhere near as many as Iain…and it’s a lot of fun). We “beat” the game in a couple days…I say “beat” because we don’t consider it beating a game until we have collected everything! But it seems a lot of people consider a game “beat” when you’ve played through all the levels. Ah…what’s the fun in missing over half the game? It’s like LEGO games…what’s the fun in JUST playing through the levels once…rather silly.

Speaking of LEGO games…Iain got his belately birthday gift of LEGO Lord of the Rings the day it came out, which if I remember correctly…was Nov. 14th. There were so many release dates for that thing…can’t remember. Now…that game…was/is AWESOME! We love the LEGO games and, as I’ve told my husband many times, I don’t feel bad spending the  money on them like I would some games because we don’t just play LEGO games…we kill them…we get every last thing including all the PS3 trophies…and then…Iain still continues to play the games. He’s still playing LEGO Batman 2, which we killed a WHILE ago. He just loves them.

Ok…what other random things can I write about?

Let’s not forget karate…the other LOVE of Iain’s life…haha. He got his green belt with black stripe before Christmas…

Image

And…for Christmas he got his black uniform. He has been asking for this since he started over a year ago…he’s super happy to have it…now to get him to wear his white one…ever again. Haha.

I’m sure there’s more I can write about…but for now…I’m off to play…

Tiny Tiger Yellow Belt

Iain tested for his yellow belt this morning. He did pretty well…and most importantly…he had FUN! It’s pretty funny…he doesn’t really understand the idea of testing…of doing your absolute best because it’s a test…haha…he sees it the same as any other karate class…which is good…’cause he doesn’t stress over it (something about a 4 year old stressing over anything seems silly)…and he does as well as he feels like doing…haha.

He’s really happy to have his yellow belt! He’s eager to learn new moves…(like most kids) he’s EXTREMELY eager to get his camo belt…then, not only does he get to start “battling” dressed like “Darth Vader”…he gets to do the “camo moves”. They did the camo form in a Friday class because it’s a mixed class and there was a kid with a camo belt there. Ever since…he’s been talking about it non-stop…there’s a move called “rainbow”?…that’s what he calls it…and he LOVES it. Kicking and spinning is way too much fun…haha. He actually did the form surprisingly well that day considering he’d never done most of the moves before. I find he listens WAY better to new things…than to things he’s been doing for weeks. Just an observation. He’s eager to do more difficult moves but…he needs to learn the basics before he can start the more challenging moves…which is what I keep telling him. He still ABSOLUTELY and TOTALLY LOVES!!! his karate classes…and is SUPER excited every time we go…every day…and practices all day at home…and talks about it whenever he isn’t practicing…but he still whines about learning “more and more and more!!!”…which I’m pretty sure he will always do. It’s like when we’re doing “school time” at home…he wants to learn everything all at once…which is just not possible…haha. He’s definitely not very patient.

We’ve been having LOTS of fun doing karate at home…especially now that he has a hanging punching bag in the basement. Too much fun! Jim and I are attempting to help him…and we’re doing pretty well considering neither of us have taken karate of any kind before… I would like to learn some…so I could help him out at home…but at the same time…I feel “too old” to start learning something like that…and honestly…we don’t have the money…especially with the expense of him starting pre-school next year. Anyway…so he’s ecstatic to be one step closer to camo belt. He’s LOVING his new yellow belt! And he’s SUPER excited to learn new moves.

He’s also wayyyyy too eager to be in the leadership program (or as he says…he wants to be a teacher!…like the other bigs kids in class and like his teachers). He talks about it all the time…which is awesome. He LOVES being a little helper…and helping his teachers…and he wants to teach the other kids (who are all older than he is, by the way). Unfortunately (and fortunately, actually, because he really needs to learn more before he can teach others…haha)…he’s got a while for that one. In the meantime…he has lots to learn…and LOTS of fun to have.

We have signed him up for another tournament…and he’s really happy to have his yellow belt in time to go.

On another note…pre-school registration for 2012-2013 starts Monday. It’s weird to be signing a kid up for school…I’m totally ready for him to go to pre-school…which is great! Because a year ago…I wasn’t. This will be his first year of “school”…it’s only 2.5 hours…Mon-Thurs…so it doesn’t even interfere with karate 🙂 …and he’s going to LOVE it. I think it will be really good for him, too…to get out and socialize with kids. He does it at karate…but he needs more than that so that he’s ready for kindergarten. It’s gonna be awesome…and I’m very interested to see how he does.

Anyway…how cute is he?!

Mad Face

I turned the big 3-0 this past weekend…I had planned on staying 29 but…despite what I used to think…30 really isn’t that old. Haha. When I was 20…30 was unimaginable…seemed so far away…and so old. But…I’m 30 now and…seriously don’t feel old. I have days here and there when I feel ANCIENT…haha…but I’ve pretty much always had them. So…

Rachel came out for my birthday weekend (kind of a tradition since we moved out here). We had great fun. Went to the movies to see The Phantom Menace in 3D on Sunday, which Iain totally loved…yay for seeing Darth Maul on the BIG screen…he’d obviously already seen the movie but…it’s a whole new experience in the theatre in 3D 🙂 And we found out during the previews that there’s going to be a new Spider-man movie coming out in 3D, which we might just have to go see.

Other than that…we hung out…went to the “toy store”, where Rachel picked Iain up some more Star Wars LEGOs…

We also went to two of my favorite places…the antiques co-op, where I spent some of my birthday money and got a magazine rack (which I wanted/needed)…

A new vintage purse/carpet bag…

And a couple other things. I could seriously spend way too much time there (and have in the past)…love it there.

Also went to the West Side Market on Monday (thankfully Jim could take off to drive there because of a couple of reasons…including…I don’t drive in/into the city). We spent a few hours there buying lots of wonderful foods…had lunch…great fun.

Rachel picked Iain up a LEGO cupcake at one of the bakeries, which he enjoyed when we got home.

We also watched a few movies this weekend…including Dolphin Tale (which I loved…and Iain did, too 🙂 )…and Larry Crowne (which I liked a lot…and Iain didn’t understand, which is ok…because it was my birthday movie). Also re-watched some Black Books (a British TV show we all highly recommend!…we being…my parents, Rachel, Jim and I.)

All in all…a fantastic long weekend.

What’s up for this week? Iain had karate last night…he has it again tonight…but has off for a couple days because of testing. He tests for his yellow belt on Saturday morning…he is SUPER excited. Can’t believe he’s going to be a little yellow belt already…sparring is coming up a little too fast for my liking (and not fast enough for Iain’s…haha).

We also signed Iain up for another karate tournament in PA. It’s in mid-March and he’s very excited!

Note: I know I haven’t been writing here much but…not for lack of content…more for lack of time…we shall see if I get better at keeping up or not…

Basement Stuff…

I’m behind…I haven’t posted about Christmas day OR New Years Weekend…but…we’ve been BUSY! So…I’ll get back to that at some point.

1. A couple months ago…I found roots (and a LOT of them) coming out of the drain in our basement. I never realized they could do that…I mean…just not something I thought of. It’s a covered drain…hidden under the ancient set sink…not someplace we notice. After we got new windows in the basement (which I totally LOVE)…I went to hook the drier vent up and in doing so I moved the dehumidifier from in front of the set sink to get behind the drier…and glanced under the sink…to find roots. I was totally creeped out…don’t know why but…it was just totally disgusting to me. I know…I garden and all that and dig through these roots outside all the time (we have a HUGE tree in our backyard and the roots are literally throughout our entire backyard) but for some reason…seeing them growing IN our house was just creepy. I told Jim when he got home and he looked into it. He was able to clear the drain out of the pipes and researched how to keep it from happening in the future.

2. Our basement set sink was OLD. A couple months or so ago…it decided to clog…so much so I could only do one load of laundry…and then had to wait for the water to go down (which usually took all day) before I could do another. Nothing like being able to do one load of laundry a day…keeping up with it was pretty difficult. We tried everything…Draino and such…plunging…that usually worked (it wasn’t the first time it had clogged…with a 1″ drain…and ancient, rusty pipes…it’s bound to happen)…but nothing worked. Eventually, Jim tried snaking the line…but…and this was the really lovely part…the snake just went right through the rusted old drain pipe. So…I went from being able to do one load of laundry a day…to none… Fun.

It took us a bit of time to decide what to do to fix the sink…whether to temporarily fix it (just replace the drain pipes and leave the rest)…or do a complete overhaul…as we planned to do eventually. Well…we decided to put off some other projects (some that were half-finished…but not disgusting…haha) and overhaul the awful laundry area. Woo-hoo!

It took a lot of work (mostly on Jim’s part) and a lot of time (which Jim doesn’t have) but the laundry project was officially started on December 27th…and was “finished” today. Finished in the sense that it’s finished for now and completely useable…the counter is installed…the sink is installed and functional!…but we have plans to put bead board around the counter…and will be getting a cabinet for under the counter for laundry stuff. Awesome.

This was our old set sink…which we never used…other than as a drain for the washer…and to clean out paint brushes…’cause…ewwwww… See that rusty orange stuff under the sink…yeah…lovely roots…

This is after the icky heavy…cement sink was removed. I was soooooooo excited!

And this is what it looks like now…I will post more pictures when it’s completely finished (underneath)…but…oh yeah…I’m loving my laundry area now!

We also have plans to paint the basement floor but that’s not possible right now because we have too much stuff stored down there…talk about motivation to THROW STUFF OUT! I kiddingly told Jim that I want to have a “basement sale”…whatever you find you can have at a price…just take it AWAY!!! Haha. He didn’t like the idea much…since a lot of his video/audio gear is down there…ah well…I tried.

Plans for today…WAYYYYY too much laundry (which I’m actually excited about doing after not being able to for almost 2 months!…luckily we’ve been able to do the essentials at Jim’s parents’…but we are still extremely backed up). AND…organize my ever-growing yarn collection, which is taking over our bedroom…

Over a month later…

Yeah…it’s been too long. I won’t be making excuses…nor writing a “catch up” post…merely because…way too much has happened in the past month and a half to write a catch up post. I have lots of pictures…most of which you’ve seen elsewhere (on FB…Snapfish..or in emails) so…I’m just going to start from here…

Last night we went to the farmpark to see the Country Lights. We barely made our ticket time…but we made it and had a great time riding on the horse-drawn wagon…and seeing all the lights. I think Iain’s favorite was the “light tunnel”…

Enjoying the ride...

When we went inside, Jim got some popcorn to share with Iain…and then we went to wait in the line to see Santa, who took a break from 7-7:30 so…lining up at 7:15 meant there wasn’t much of a line…

Waiting in line to see Santa...

He was sooooooo cute…he ran right up to Santa and sat down next to him…took an extremely adorable picture! and then told him exactly what he wanted for Christmas…a “power rangers morpher”…which was news to us until yesterday…Thanks, Iain, for telling Santa… He’s been telling us “Santa’s bringing an Ewok and a Rancor”…for months…and changed it yesterday…Santa’s still bringing the Ewok and Rancor…but he’s bringing a morpher, too. Haha. Too cute!

After seeing Santa, we walked around for a bit…got some more really cute pictures. Considering Iain wasn’t feeling very well (I think he has a cold ALL winter…seriously!)…he was quite the sport about the pictures…

Hugging Rudolph...

"Ok, mom, I'm done with the picture thing..." Haha.

Then…we went home. Great fun!

What’s coming up this week? Iain has karate tonight and tomorrow…then he tests for his orange belt with a black stripe on Saturday!! (They do half-belts with the Tiny Tigers.) Iain is SUPER excited!!!

Now…hopefully it won’t be another month before I post on here again…

Pumpkins…

I love the fall…not so much for the icky, cold, rainy weather…it rains pretty much from summer till winter here…and winter is long…BUT…I do love the smells of fall…apples…pumpkins…spices…

We picked up a couple pie pumpkins on Sunday and I decided to cook them up today as it’s really cold and rainy (as opposed to just a little cold and rainy. . .). It took way longer to cut the stupid pumpkins than it should have…one cut easily…the other one I had to fight it for a while before it would actually CUT. Iain had a GREAT time helping separate out the seeds. Such a good little happy little helper 🙂

Iain: "See mom...see!! See what I did!!!"

I got quite a bit of pumpkin purée out of just two (8+ cups)…which is awesome. And…I cooked up the seeds, too…’cause Iain just loves seeds (of any kind). I know it’s not the healthiest way to cook them but…I sautéed them in butter, ~3 TBSP brown sugar, ~1/2 tsp cinnamon and ~1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice (measurements are my best guesses as I didn’t measure anything) and then baked them in the oven at 300 for a bit (about 15 minutes?…didn’t time them either). Came out perfect. Candied. Wish I measured/timed a bit more so that I could replicate the recipe but…I should be able to come close in the future.

October Fun!

Thursday
We had a busy night. Iain went to karate from 4:45-5:15 and then straight to a Halloween Party at a local park. He was exhausted from karate (yeah…just half an hour totally knocks him out because he puts so much energy into his class!)…but we had lots of fun all the same…just didn’t make it all the way to the end of the party.

He got a kick out of scaring all the other kids. He didn’t do it on purpose…just turns out little kids are afraid of Darth Vader…and Iain went around doing “the Vader breathing” and loudly humming the Vader theme music…kids tended to hide behind their parents…and Iain thought it was funny. If only the kids knew that under the Vader mask was an extremely silly little man.

Doing "the choking thing"...

Painting a pumpkin...

I thought he was finished painting the pumpkin…but his pumpkin still “needed a face!” So he painted on a ghostly face…

Fishing for ghosts...

Mini golfing with eggs is tough!

Friday
We went to A Christmas Story House in Cleveland with Jim’s parents. They got us tickets for Christmas last year and we finally made plans to go! Iain hadn’t seen the movie in a year so we showed him a bit Friday morning before we left. He LOVES the movie (and actually remembered it from last year…I’m always impressed by his memory!) so he was very excited to go to “Ralphie’s house”…

It was a cold and rainy day but surprisingly enough…even in October…there were about a dozen or more people at the house. We all had a great time…and Iain had fun reinacting some of his favorite parts. The second the tour guide was done talking…he wanted to go straight upstairs to see the boys’ bedroom…and he insisted on sitting on the toilet “just like Ralphie”…

And he just had to sit under the sink “like Randy”…

Lots of fun.

After A Christmas Story House…we headed over to the West Side Market. I’d never been and it’s ridiculously huge…LOVE it!! Iain was really good…he got very tired…understably so…but he had a yummy hotdog…and helped us pick some stuff to bring home…so he had a good time, too…

Sunday
Our church had Halloween Trunk or Treat. Too much fun. People decorated the trunks of their cars and the kids went around and trick or treated…and there were lots of games inside. Iain had SOOOO much fun! Sooooo many people came!

All ready to go Trunk or Treating...

Jim was in charge of our trunk as I was taking Iain around. He set up his fog machine in the car and everything.

The whole Halloween thing is WAY more fun this year than last year. Iain LOVES Halloween…dressing up like Darth Vader…and seeing all the other kids dressed up like all different characters…Wolverine…Spider-man (both red and black)…the red Power Ranger…and Princess Leia…Jengo Fett…Arf Trooper…just to name a few. Tons of fun…and we aren’t quite finished with the Halloween thing. We still have a Halloween party on Saturday! and real trick-or-treating with Jim’s mom on Halloween night. Iain’s sure loving being Darth Vader.
